Other Lives Music Video

Yesterday we shot a music video for a new song called Dust Bowl Drone. We were very fortunate to meet Shaun Peterson in LA after our Henry Fonda show with Bat for Lashes and he had expressed an interest in doing some video work for us....We took him up on it. As a result, we made two new friends in the process, Shaun and Joline Towers. Make sure you check out Shaun's work Here. His production company is called Grandpa Jones Productions. We will be posting a making the video clip soon......so you can see how red our noses were from the cold and how weak we looked from hauling the piano in the picture above from field to field. The shoot really couldn't have gone any better.....we got some snow at the end of the day.

Basketball Diaries

There’s this newly added column made of two by fours in the studio that keeps the roof from caving in, and this week we found an additional use for it. We took my old djembe (it was a gift, I swear) which has a broken head and tied it to the column to make a basketball goal. See, we have all these mini basketballs around the studio because every time Jesse goes to the gas station down the street he plays the prize grabber game thing and wins a basketball every single time. He’s a pro. Anyway, Jesse and I had some pretty heated games today. We play best out of 10 from the line, and trash talking is definitely aloud. I’m not going to say who won today, because that would come across as bragging. Ryan (our neighbor from Colourmusic) came over today and said he was ‘glad that someone finally made good use of a djembe.’

Despite the new basketball goal, we’ve gotten a lot done. We just wrapped up a song today so we're feeling pretty good.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to everybody, hope you had a fulfilling holiday. Just thought I would let you know I won a drawing for the first time. My girlfriend entered my name and I ended up winning a PBR bicycle. Guess I just needed her for luck. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Listening

Just thought I would give you all a taste of what I'm listening to. A little Dave Brubeck never hurt anyone and I am partial to the "Countdown" album. The theory behind this album is experimentation in time signatures, which is why I am so interested in it. Each track is a venture into improvising in these awkward time signatures.
You can listen here

You can also check out one of our friends records out, Willoughby which is Gus Seyffert's band http://www.myspace.com/willoughby.

Studio Space

Here are some photos that I took from a writing session we had yesterday to give you a glimpse in to our workspace/studio in Stillwater, OK. Our friend Ryan from Colourmusic dropped by to say hello with a monumental teddy bear sweatshirt......It is a privilege to have studio spaces that are next door to one another in the downtown area.

Tonight with recording in the new LA.

I can't sleep to save my life, so I thought I would write about tonight.....We have been recording a new song called Glass leaves and the process has been a bit different this time around. We have been treading in uncharted waters to say the least.  It's starting to feel really exciting and full....and usually the momentum of at this point is enough to drive a song home.  It seems as if we are going over everything with a fine tooth comb....(maybe so we don't have to do it later:) I like it better that way............Jon is doing a great job engineering and recording....he is doing those things on top of writing, so he is our player of the week!
Tonight Jesse, Jenny, and I went over to the local pub and socialized with our good friends colourmusic......I have had a chance to listen to a few tracks off of the new recording they have been recording relentlessly over the last four or five months.  I am really excited for those guys....If you haven't checked them out you should do yourself a favor and do so.  We have neighboring studios here in Stillwater, Oklahoma............the new LA.   I guess I will try to shut my eyes now.

Other Lives Blogathon

For the last two weeks, we have been back in Oklahoma working and recording some new songs lately.......So, I thought it would be nice to document the process by creating a band blogathon.....(I love anything with athon on the end of it. It makes it sound like there is so much of it going on) This is our first blog! So, I have to say I am a little nervous and light headed at the moment writing this.........We will keep you posted as we beat ourselves over the head with song composition :)
